Training and Certifying Drug Recognition Experts (DREs)

Something Everybody Should Know About

This is a video from the Vail Daily focusing on the recent roadside sobriety testing training from the Colorado State Patrol.
The paragraph below is from the Colorado State Patrol website.

All Colorado State Patrol Troopers are trained in the detection of impairment from alcohol, drugs and other substances; additionally, many Troopers have received additional training as certified Drug Recognition Experts (DREs).

During the course of a traffic contact, any driver suspected of driving while impaired by marijuana may be asked to complete voluntary roadside maneuvers and submit to a chemical test.  Refusal of a chemical test results in stricter penalties than compliance.

A DUI lawyer that says this:

The law is you can not smoke and drive.  Law enforcement is training and certifying officers to be what they are calling Drug Recognition Experts (DRE). If a law enforcement officer pulls you over and thinks you are under the influence he/she can ask for a blood sample.

You may opt out without penalty, however,  it is up to the officer’s discretion whether to arrest you or not. If you are arrested a blood test will be requested. The sample is taken by either an ambulance or at a local emergency room. You may also refuse that test, but the penalty is harsher than a DUI conviction.

Profiling IS Dehumanizing

de·hu·man·ize. verb dē-ˈhyü-mə-ˌnīz dē-ˈyü-\. : to treat (someone) as though he or she is not a human being.

NO two people were created the same. We are all unique.

Human beings are INDIVIDUALS

ˌindəˈvijəwəl/a single human being as distinct from a group, class, or family.

If you have allergies and/or anxiety you may be mistaken.

Physical or Mental Handicap?

When a driver is stopped at a Colorado sobriety checkpoint  police will be looking for:

  • The odor of alcohol or drugs
  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Alcohol containers
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Fumbling fingers
  • Slurred speech
  • Admission that you have been drinking or using drugs

You’ll have no rights unless you fight for them. You are NOT a slave and don’t let these so called officials push you around. If you need a good lawyer to fight for your rights click the button below.
